Growing up in Washington State, I spent countless hours in nature, peering up at the snow-covered mountains, captivated by their forms. Weekends were spent chasing trails, walking along paths that started at the river’s edge, winding up through dense woods before opening to expose towering peaks where snow would still cling to rocks, even in the height of summer. The very atmosphere would change in these transitions, from high humidity to a colder, crisper scent and feel above the tree line. I fell in love with the alpine in these quiet moments, in the presence of ancient peaks.

Through my paintings, I return to that feeling, translating not simply the landscape itself, but the shift, the stillness and the sense of awe that comes with it.

Each mountain interested me for different reasons, but painting them came from the same source, an attempt to hold onto the feeling of stepping above treeline, deep in the wilderness, into the stillness of the alpine. It is the same feeling i found in the mountains of Washington that draws me around the world for peaks i may never stand beneath in person. These summits are remote, some will never be climbed, and that is part of what makes it worth painting them.

I hope my paintings offer a sense of peace and wonder. I hope they invite you to reflect on something far greater than ourselves - something that has stood long before us and will remain long after.
